I heard Dreamworks has confirmed to produce the first ever primetime all CG TV series and it's gonna premiere on NBC starting next July. The most shocking news is that Hong Kong studios-imagi animation studio-will be producing this show for Dreamworks.That's why that have been hiring new trainee so rapidly.I heard news that they have now over two hundred animators.

These guys in imagi is making history.

American network NBC and movie studio DreamWorks have unveiled plans to produce the first-ever series for prime-time TV made fully using computer-generated images like those in hit movie Shrek .

Father of the Pride promises to be a family comedy with "cheeky, edgy and ironic" humor that centers on a pride of white lions in the Las Vegas act of Siegfried & Roy. It will debut in Fall 2004, the companies said in a joint statement.

Computer-generated imagery, or CGI as it is called in Hollywood, is fast becoming a darling of movie audiences and a preferred method of animation compared with old-style hand drawings. Films like Shrek, Ice Age, Monsters, Inc . and the Toy Story films are all CGI-movies.

"This is the single most important project I've been involved with in two-and-a-half years," said Jeff Zucker, president NBC Entertainment. "The CGI technology is the biggest advance in animation, and finally we can bring it to NBC."

The half-hour series will revolve around the competition between a family of snooty white tigers and a white lion pride featured in the Siegfried & Roy act.

DreamWorks principal partner and Shrek producer, Jeffrey Katzenberg, said Father of the Pride puts an "irreverent comedy spin" on showbiz icons Siegfried and Roy by seeing their world through the eyes of the animals.

He added that doing a weekly TV series will challenge the studio to stay on the leading edge of CGI technology.

CGI versions of Siegfried & Roy will be featured in the series. The duo's current production is the longest-running on or near the famed Las Vegas Strip, with each show selling out during an 11-year run. The show is filled with elaborate sets, costumes, illusions, and live exotic animals.

My friend works in imagi told me Raman Hui will start working there next week....Great news for HK.

Not only.Do you know imagi is a major investor in a famous anime studio in Tokyo called "Mad house". It the one who produce "Animatrix" "metropolis""Vampire Hunter D".

Wow! They're now a very influential player in animation industry worldwide. Local company like Centro,menford,and DCDC are too tiny comparing to imagi.

They might be planning a big project with madhouse

but i dun understand why its salary so low ..$6000 ... can earn this amount in many other fields. i think at least $9000 for a junior animator is acceptable for working 6 whole days a week.

I can't understand why no people respect animators. We are not cheap labour....

yes, always OT.... but double pay during OT... but only count from 2000 - 2300 ... and maximum OT for $1500 a month ...

$6000.You're talking about animators who has only 3 months of experience.After they train you for a year,it's higher and higher.

In CG animation,HK is new kids on the block comparing to Korea,China,Thailand,Malaysia.

Their salary is only roughly HKD$1500-2500 a moth in those places.

I guess it's only way to complete.

When they start to make their own movie, they may able to have better return for the animators.

It's now just the learning period before they can do that.

I guese staring at $6000 after 3months with no experience is not bad for Form 5 graduates.For people who spent 5 extra years including earning a degree,they make around that money too.

Not only in CG, HK has to reduce it's salary dramatically in order to stay competitive to low cost center.

I know india is big force in CG.Their animators have computer science degree and speak fluent English but they are very happy with HKD 1000 each month.

Ha. I am the guy who have computer science degree and speak english in HK. But as we all know $6000 is not enough for saving money here.... every month you must spend over $4000, and give the remaining amount to parents. I am turning back to a 3ds max CG man in interior design industry now....

It's a fact that China and India has been stealing jobs from all over the world including in U.S.

In HK, we must face tougher time ahead since we're so close to China.

Since Hk Dollar is pegged to USD, the only way is gain competitiveness is cut in Salary.Unfortunately,other living necessity has not reduced in a same pace as salary because of the peg to USD.

If there is no peg,i'm sure the salary overall in all industry is a lot higher than now in HK$term.

Last word, we have faced that we're living in world that we're not just competing with others in HK but the world.

It's global trend that we cannot stop.Much tougher time ahead.

nono, i think 8000-9000 is reasonable. but not 6000.
