render speed?

Hi
I am using althon 64, 3400+ with 512MB DDR400. I draw 1 box, 2 omni light(no shadow) and 1 skylight(with shadow). It need over 5 mins to render.
Is it normal? and i found if turn on the skylight shadow, it will decrease the speed a lot. How can we prevent it?
