Actually, 1408 is the 2nd short story of Blood and Smoke, by Stephen King, released in 2000.
I think somehow silent hill 4 (which published on year 2004) has made use of this great horror and thrill author's idea.
Interestingly, if you notice carefully, you can find out the numbers of the title add up to the unlucky number 13.
