Will Ratatouille be the 1st Pixar feature that grossed under $200 mil (US) since Bug's life? Very possible. It has the worst opening weekend record of any Pixar films in last 10 years and only grossed around $163 mil (US) in its 4th weekend. It has great reviews but that didn't help. May be it's the no-too-good-looking rat, the French thing (you know how much American dislike French), going against Transformers, or people just tried of animated animals... who knows, I only know that Disney should hire the marketing team at Dreamworks... Shrek's everywhere but rat... must be hiding in the kitchen.
Meanwhile Sony's bleeding blood with Surf's up only grossed around $70 mil (US)... urgh, not looking good at all.
With the recent CG failures like Meet the Robinsons, Ant Bully, Flushed Away, I believe the studios will be much more carefully before giving the greenlight to CG features. Maybe not a bad thing if you ask me.
