Character Designer

SOFA Studio is looking for a Character Designer to join our team for the new animated feature film.

Essential Job Functions:
• Works with Director or Production Designer to create characters
• Create appealing characters that articulate the Director’s vision for the production.
• Applies expert understanding of character design and needs of the animation process to design memorable, if not iconic characters
• Develops character’s looks, personalities, movements and expressions
• Ensures that creative and technical staff have sufficient information about the characters throughout the production process
• Accountable for meeting productivity and quota targets
• Solid interpersonal and communications skills
• Self-managing — organized with good time management. Must be able to identify and meet goals
• Reporting directly to the Production Designer and updating work progress on a daily basis
• Ability to produce designs quickly and efficiently

REQUIREMENTS:
• 5+ years experience as a character designer on Animated Feature Films or Animation TV series
• Demonstrates a diversified design style and portfolio
• Excellent drawing ability & demonstrates a superior design ability
• Familiar with good combination of body shape and proportion, good at using color and handling details
• Able to develop ‘Star’ characters for the production
• Has a unique and leading vision of how art/technology should function and the ability to inspire a wide range of audiences to adopt this vision
• Strong understanding and experience of the film production process; with an understanding of the 3D build process is a plus
• Ability to work well under stress and to be creative with limited assistance
• Great communication skills a must
• Experience with Photoshop is necessary.
• Knowledge of sculpture or 3D model production is a plus
• Able to work both collaborative and independently.
