you have to cache it first... press 0...
or read the help file...

that is one of the most basic thing of AE

you are using normal " Play" or ram preview ?
if you only press the " Play " button in AE .. it wont play in real time and also wont play sound.

if want to have reat time ( like 25 frame per sec ) and with sound
you better use Ram preview

composition-> preview


or press " 0 " on your keyboard ~
