The Weta guy showed a whole bunch of videos which were just amazing. The horse animation was fantastic, the human simulation was fantastic, and the battle crowd test they did in 1999 was... wow! Throughout the whole show I kept thinking about someone's comment earlier that HK companies can do all those things in 1/3 of the time they took...
The Pixar presentation focused more on design, planning and mise-en-scene, which is really good because HK productions are sorely lacking in those departments. They also showed some tests of close-up facial expressions, and you can really see their animators' delicate sense of timing. Unfortunately, at 10 pm the auditorium's air-con was cut, and then at 11 pm the electricity to the video projector was cut. So the speaker couldn't continue with the talk about snow simulation and camouflage shaders. It's a shame because I really wanted to hear how they did the amazing snow in Monsters Inc.
