Motion Blur Pass

Hey guys, I am wondering if there are any experienced max user to help me on this. I am using MR for a project that I am working on. And as most of you know, enabling motion blur will cause your render time X 99999999999999999 -_-". Since time is limited I am planning to render the images without any motion blur as 1 pass and only motion blur as a 2nd pass. I've been doing some research and most ppl suggest to use After Effects' Reel Smart Motion Blur plugin which requires a 2d motion vector map. Now, I know there's a shader in Maya 2008 (lm_2DMV) that does this but is there a shader similar to that I can use in Max? I am still using Max 9 atm. I have found a way to imitate the 2d motion vector map in maya using the velocity element, but it only works fine on objects with very simiple color and stuff and not on anything that is fully textured. Are there some otherways to work around this?

try to find "mip_motion_vector", it's a hidden shader in Maya, but I dunno Max is hidden or not.

Thanks for replying. Mental Ray that comes with Maya and Max 2008 has some of their shaders hidden.

Unfortunately they don't have this in Max9...how would people do this back then when these shaders weren't available?

Maya 2008 & 2009 both have these hidden shaders, but the method is different.

May be Max 09 need to use another way to show it. :roll:

I don't think it's there, I don't see it =P. I guess I will need to think of something else for the motion blur. Thanks H20..

are you talking about RSMB Vectors 2D motion blur in AE?
for 3ds max...
if so, you can directly render a "Velocity" pass in Render Elements.
>F10>Render Setup>Render Elemnets>Add>Velocity.

this channel is enable to generate a motion blur data that will be read by Vector 2D motion in AE.
