Wingman, it isn't a chore to help realise other people's creative ideas, in fact it's a joy, and still one of the biggest incentives for my holding on to this profession.
Whether you like it or not, computer graphics is still very much a service-oriented industry, and likely to remain so for many years to come. You cannot work as an island, and expect to live off selling works of CG art to patron collectors like in the medieval times. And working overnight is a constant factor in every walk of the profession, from the creative director to the tape transfer guy, so the bad news is -- you can never get away from it. But the good news is -- don't worry, you can still do it when you're over 30

Nope. Many think like you do. But it's a very unrealistic thought.
