Lamza, I’m glad you are interest in the gaming industry. Well, I’m not sure about Hong Kong, but I think the gaming industry is still growing. Just by looking at the Game Conference “E3” each year, you will find out how the gaming technology grow. Or take a look at some snap shot of some PS3 or Xbox 2 game title, the quality is kind of close to a pre-render CG movie (not sure how the game play improve though).
I don’t know much about the gaming school, they may charge a lot I guess? I actually work for Namco last year in US, but I never heard they have a school, probably only in Japan. And you said the gaming industry in Japan are going down, I won’t agree with that. Just look at the sale report of Final Fantasy, you will know why they invest so much money on this series. Of couse not all the gaming company make good game, but one thing for sure is there are more gamer nowaday compare to couple years ago. Actually some of the gaming company in US start building branch in China, for example, Ubisoft (the creator of Tomb Radier, Prince of Persia 2) they already hire gaming expert for their ShangHai branch. They have all kind of position available on both technical and art side. Software engineer, level designer, 3D artist, 2D artist…etc. I believe there will be more and more gaming company in China or Hong Kong, cuz most of the company noticed that China is a place full of opportunity.
Lazma, if you really interest in the gaming industry, try your best to fullfil your dream! I know is kind of hard to pursue “dream” in Hong Kong, cuz many people are “money driven” Let’s prove to the othe people that money isn’t everything! Break into the gaming industry is very tough, and it require a lot of time and hardwork. But it will paid off, working in the game industry is very very fun! If you want to know more about the gaming industry, check out this website :
www.gamasutra.com. It’s a very popluar website that everyone who are interest work in the gaming industry shouldn’t miss.
Let me know if you have any more question, I will try my best to answer, I really want to see the gaming industry can grow in Hong Kong. One more thing, please try not to talk anything bad about Hong Kong or Hong Kong people anymore. If we don’t have the pride to being HK or Chinese, what will other people think of us? Maybe some of the HK people are not very nice or impolite, let’s try our best to change it, start from changing ourself!!
