I don't know much about CG animation opportunity in UK. But 3D CGI +2D photo composition is extremely popular in UK, especially in London. Many worldwide advertising agencies dealing with automobile accounts have been using different high-end boutique retouching studios with CGI capability in England. Those studios are constantly looking for talents. In my opinion, England's 3D CGI +2D photo composition works are still far better than USA at the present time.

The salary for junior retoucher, 3D artist or modeler is about 16K GBP per pear. Senior position is between 30K GBP to 50K GBP. Depending on how good you are. People with very good Photoshop skill in this type of environment will have much bigger edge than the others. No matter what production position you are in.

But expect to pay very heavy income tax. . Average tax rate for salary below 33K GBP is 22% and anything above 33K is 40%.

Also, cost of living is extremely expensive. Especially in London

If you are willing to spend time and learn at the job, the future is very good.

You are very fortunate if you have the opportunity to go to London, the CG industry there is SOO....much better than HK. Not too many cities have better CG industry than London (except for Hollywood California of course)

They have many game companies, film and effect houses. Just around London, (not the whole UK) have approx 20 different film and commerical studios, plus approx. 50 different game companies.

I don't know how long will you stay in London, try your best to get into their CG communities and you will understand what I mean.

i paid 25% incoming tax (don't ask me why it wasn't 22% )

-to rent a studio flat in London cost you around £500 to £900 per month (some not including gas bill)
-and you MUST pay the 'council tax' when you live in UK, which cost you around £75-90 pounds per month
-a line rental for land line + broadband internet cost you around another £20-30 per month
-mobile costs you around £10-20 per month
-a pint of beer costs you £4-5
-a pair of jeans costs you around £30-40 (an ugly one)
-a shirt cost you around £20-30
-a 燒味飯 from 旺記 £4 (very cheap)
-a sandwich cost you £2-3
-a McDonald set meal costs you £4-5
-a bottle of 500ml coke costs you 90 pence
-a vegetable, 99 pence

yup, it is so hard for a non-eu people to get a job in uk or eu countries, but not because we dont know their culture, just because we need a work permit to work there, and it is very hard to get one

In conclusion, no matter you have been told how difficult to get a job in uk or other countries, it still worth to try, who knows what happen next, 放眼世界
