7.3M so far for the first 5 days......the daily gross dropped 83.5% after the first weekend. It is not looking good.......even if they could pull back the 65M they spent (which seems highly unlikely now), i don't think they would make the Gatchaman considering the time and money they have to invest but could end up not making any money at all.

They have to make Gatchaman anyhow. They have a 3 movies deal with WB. TMNT, Astro Boy, and one more.

TMNT was distributed by WB itself.
WB sold the distribution rights of Astro Boy to Summit (good move).
If WB cannot sell the rights of the third movie to other studios, they might let Imagi pass away the deal.

i think it's not a bad idea to have a movie based on a very successful or famous comic/manga. It's easy to pitch the idea and the gross is almost guaranteed. But the thing is this rule cannot be applied to the Japanese as Japanese comic story never worked well in the US market (just take a look at Dragonball). And for the Japan market, they have a very high expectation on CG and unfortunately Astro Boy is nowhere close to the Japanese standard. So i guess that's why they failed in both markets.

If they did sign a 3-movie contract, the wise move would be calling the last one off. If they stick with their plan, better make it right this time (better CG + character design).

但 Gatchaman Design 已經出左.... 時間上又唔可以拖太耐, 而且今次下下都做 5個人既 motion, 仲有 sim cloth..... 的確系一個重大既挑戰!
