9ming,
Sorry for respond you so late. But I still remember you.
I have thought about your questions for a while. Here are my opinions.
Basically, it is not only concept design. All the creative job are quite similar. What ever it is a graphic, product, fashion, car or something else. As long as it is a creative job. There is something you should do.
There is no output without input. You've got to absorb the informations all the time in everywhere. Keep building up knowlege bit by bit from time to time. You can't create a great stuff from an empty mind.
Don't only look at something similar as what you are gonna to create. Such as if you designning a car, don't look at car design only, look at anything else. Otherwise you will end up just designed a car. And try to design a car which doesn't looks like a car.
A piece of design work will never gone too prefect. There is always something can be improved. So spend as much time as you could it. But don't stuck yourself on the chair. You need to flash your mind sometimes.
Learn the rule well, then break the rule. Go out of the box. Do something crazy and has never been done before. Especially on the brain stoming stage, don't be afraid to go too far.
An good idea, doesn't has to be done by logical thinking. Try not to think step by step sometimes. The best idea you probably found it in your dream.
Be original. Don't copy other people's work.
The internet nowaday is one of the biggest and easiest source to get the informations from. I force myself to look at serveral websites every morning before work. Some of them are product, some of them are car design, TV commerical, graphic design, concept design.... do browse those international cg website everyday, see what other people do.
You have to see more, listen more, read more. Radio, tv, books, magazine.... when you waiting for hair cut, pick up and read whatever it is in your hand. Creative is not a career, it is a life. You shouldn't switch off your brain after the office.
Sharing is one of the fastest way to learn. Don't be afraid people will be better than you after you share with him. He will then share back with you.
Not talking and discuss with people only, but also talk to yourself. Ask yourself some questions. How do you do it? why do you do it? why you didn't do in other way? why it has to be like this?....
Drawing is certainly important. You can't even present what you try to do to your client if your drawing is crap. So do drawing all the time.
There is a lot of good book in the shope or internet. I have recently bought three books which are quite nice.

Tigger 寫:how do i say it ... i think Andrew has very solid and concrete design

cool man ... you should come back to HK for X'mas to see your own work with your eye

Tigger, I am a normal person. Nothing special just like you. I believe everyone can do a great work. As long as you spend time and put effort on your works. A lot of things of works need to be improved. We all should keep going. Let's push the Hong Kong CG to another level together.
I am surprised to receive many people's respond in this forum, and also receive quite a few people email me directly. Thanks everyone's supportting.
