By accident I found this website/forum and it is certainly very useful to get an idea of the local CG "scene". Well done.
A little bit of info about myself first of all. I am a VFS 3d graduate from a few years back and it was an excellent experience; the working environment just couldn't be better and the teachers there are just so professional. I had a a blast.
Anyways, I didn't go into the CG field then (I primarily studied the course out of for hobby's sake)... I followed up to run my family's business and it was a non-stop busy 5 yr period ever since. Now with the businesses running steadily "on rails", I am anxious to get my hands back into the field.
Then there are the rants from the forum posts... with crap salary and long working hours...etc..
Well I dont have a problem with that... as crap salary and long hours are almost there with a lot of other business (who doesn't?) But it seems that there is no effort on the production houses' part to train and look for new blood?! Or are the CG grads from local colleges very bad? (culprits may be the structure of the courses or the instructors?!)
but what I am asking is... I am interested in getting a CG job in HK... I know i've got a good foundation from VFS in terms of classical animation (I love flippN 6 pages at once!!) ,film concepts (storyboarding...etc..) and I know how to work softimage/ alias wavefront (ok so it's called maya

Are they even gonna consider me because I lack knowledge of up-to-date software packages? I believe these methods are easy to learn when you get hands on approach.. skinnN extrudN...blah blah blah it's all really the same function with a different interface. I still remember the time when my instructor told me it's the core that matters as the packages will only evolve to be more user-friendly and top p'houses are using proprietary 3d softwares... Do HK p'houses look for these skills or are they just mass hiring "ready to work right away" animators to help get a project done then (perhaps) lay them off as supply is always abundant? Is it cheaper salary request to them the better? Do they even want to train a person with good art background with "old" 3d package skills? i.e. me

Thank for reading guys. Long post.. excuse me if there are any spelling errors.
