i used it shade R4 around 3 years ago, it is a not bad 3d package, really really simple, it means very limited that you can't exactly do what you want to, especialy for the animation, the worst thing is, it is almost impossible to find any reference books for shade, if you find one, it probably in japanese, but you could download the official pdf tutorial from the offical web site, it used to like this software before, but once i moved on to other more powerful programe, i don't use it anymore now, what i suggest you is, always choice the programe which is more or most porpular, then you can very very easy to buy a book, get plug in, ask for help, get into industry....

if you want, i could try to post some of my old works which has been done on shade R4
