Is it true that Maya and Softimage require Window NT to run?

I am using Window 98 right now. After I download both Maya and Softimage, it tells me that I must need Window NT to run. Are there any version of Maya and Softimage that do not require Window NT to run?

Most of the 3d software can't run on 98

I think u can upgrade to XP, although is home editon, maya can run.

I am using both WIN2000 and XP
