Hey, guys, stop trying to define "Pro". this is a non-stop topic. A definition of "Pro" is different from everyone. So stop that, get back to work!!!!
mogelpoo:
Very simular to me. As I first graduated, i thought there would have alot of companies were going to hire me. At that time, i thought i would choose which company that i want going to. I quote here "I whould choose".
But i tell you what, today, i will never say that. I m not the one who has the right too choose, are them the one choosing me.
Why am i saying that? There has alot of grads including my collegues were thinking the same way: if the salary is not meeting my line, i won't take the job.
But in today's world. i mean "world" not just HK. Companies has no money to affort that many ppl to work for them. They just can't.
mogelpoo, you have a chance to interview, you have a chance to get a $6500 job. Why do you complain???? Do you know which step is the most difficult from getting into 3D industry? Is the first step!!
It doesn't matter if they pay you alot or, well. some compnay they only hire volunteers. The hardest is getting you into the industry. Once you are in, you can meet more ppl, learn more, get more ppl to know who you are. Are these worth more than $6500? It can't even use $$ to buy those network and experience.
Do you see my point here? you said you have 1 year and 8 month experience. there has thoudsands of 3D animator are waiting for hire. Do you still remember Square Pictures? the company was collapes because of the ff movie. There has more than 250 world toppest animator were being layoff. Do you think those 250 animator can get a job right away???
I tell you what, a student from my college (he is a few years earlier grad than me) Who was hired by Sony pictures, worked on spiderman. One day, he brough one of his teamate back to the college and did a speech.
He said, before he is hired by sony. He moved himself to CA. Looking for jobs. He only work as a freelancer for few companies, some contracts. He doesn't have a staple job for couple years. He doesn't care about the salary. He just want to get his butt into big projects (or even small projects is good), meet more ppl, sell himself. This is the kind of additude ppl!!! This is the spirit!!! You know your goal. The goal is networking.
Of cuz, you have to have some luck. Well, like me, i don't even have a chance to have an interview. Not my work they dont' like. Is that they just dont' have money to hire. Some companies just layoff ppl. Do you think they have the $$ to get you "the newbie" in?
Back to the question "Pro" or not. Only the one that is new to this industry will stick their heads to figure it out the meaning of "pro", is himself "pro"? is myself "pro"? is my friend "pro"?.....
When you know more people in this industry, you won't ask yourself this stupid question. You only judge by your eye. Compare youself, to others (work). Don't be jealous to those who create better work than you do. Try to seek out how can they do that, learn from them. In the other hand, upgrade yourself asap. Don't get too far behind.
In this industry, there are a lot of ppl working hard. They improve fast. Do you think you can keep up their speed? if not, work harder. even if you don't have a job. You can even gather with a group of friends. Make a group project by youself. Work as a group (not those school project with a limited time only) can learn a lot.
Im not trying to point at one paticular person. I m here to point out what kind of problem HK ppl have generally . We have to change this kind of additude, habbits. If we are still keeping like that, we will be slower than the ppl from other countries.
