I don't think XSI is the best 3D software ... actually, there isn't any. Because it really depends on what you doing ... games:- which will be Max and Maya (only very few game company using soft or XSI for game, even less then lightwave as I know)

TV series ... maybe XSI and Maya or Max ...
but movies it will be Maya for sure

and actually the most powerful software will be those proprietory software at those giant studio (ILM, Pixar, PDI, Digital Domain ..etc
