TMNT Opens with $8.7 Million

The Warner Bros. animated feature film TMNT grossed an estimated $8.7 million its opening day according to ShowbizData, averaging $$2,798 in 3,110 theatres. That points to a weekend take somewhere between $25 and 27 million, roughly where the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live action movie opened back in 1990.

Also yesterday, Zack Snyder's historic epic 300 added an additional $6 million to its box office take going into its third weekend, where it's likely to cross the $150 million mark after 15 days.

yea, it's not like super good, but not bad at all. Congrad to Imagi. :>

if it can make 25millions in it's first weekend, then there will be a good chance that it will do a bit better than Monster house, which did 22 millions in the first weekend and total 73 millions at US box office.
Considering TMNT cost only like 60% as much as monster house. I think it's a good number.

but then as I mentioned in another post before, Imagi's earlier forecast that they can make 250 to 300 millions is just like day dreaming. I guess it was more like marketing talk for drawing attention more than a solid expectation.

Monster House got 140 million worldwide, it's about double the US box office alone, so if tmnt is doing a bit better than monster house, maybe it could reach 160 million.
Cars had 462 million worldwide, so if tmnt is somewhere between Cars and Monster house, then it could have 300 million. But tmnt's production budget is just about 30% of Cars. I'd say imagi has a very good bet on tmnt.

It will earn money, that's for sure. But distributing and marketing a movie in US(or international), is very expensive. it costs $40m US dollar to make a movie, and it could cost WB more than 40m to distribute this movie just in US, considering they have to spend money on the 3500 screens in US and buying air time in TV bababa, that's why imagi have to split the box office money with Warnerbrothers.
Nowadays hollywood movies, a lot of them don't even earn any money from box office anymore because the expensive marketing expense. instead, they make money by selling DVD, selling the show to tv station and selling merchandise products.

And yes, so far seems 160m world wide is very possible, (300m....hmm i am not sure) :>

i just only know because of TMNT, the stock of IMAGI rise from 3.58 to 4.45(24%) in last 2 weeks...

so you should know why IMAGI forcast that number.

Investors are not idiots, they won't simply believe what they are told and there are of banks and investment organizations to estimate those numbers.

TMNT second weekend 9.1m... dropped pretty fast under meet the Robinsons and the blade of glory. Too bad it might turns doing just so so in US box office. And hard to believe 300 still going strong, 11m...... even better than ninja turtle.
