Hi, 呢個系我第一個post, 一直唔知有呢個forum, 所以多數都系去cgsociety, 最近完成左個reel, 正式開始搵工, 先發現呢個forum (仲睇到大家形容系香港做CG既慘況, 都有D心寒:o ...) Anyway, 希望大家比d意見.

PS: 你地有無攪網友聚會? 我一直都系自學, 有時都想識下系香港既同行, 我念大家出來聚眾都幾有意思.

Thanks for the kind comment. I am in HK (Tuen Mun).

Max is my main 3D app. too, mostly because of vray, but for some of the effect stuff, there are better choice like Maya.

Glad to hear that you guys do get together. I am excited to know some of you guys.

it is easy to do regular and canned special effect in max.
you can explore much more about it.
lots of plugins u can use.

however, maya is a powerful tool for speical effect too.

Very nice showreel, i like the subtlety of camera movement and the effect shots are very rich in detail.
The shot breakdowns show your strategy of problem solving, and understanding of the advantages of different applications.

it's rarely to see houdini user in hong kong, keep it up. The knowledge of houdini definitely help when using maya in advance level.

One thing though, the quality of the product shots are not quite match-up with the effect shots. It would be better to brush them up or take them out from the reel.

This is what a showreel should be. But if i were you, i would cut it down a bit. You need to show quality, not quantity

多 details 既 object handle 得唔錯, 但 product demo overall 唔夠硬

bloomsbury highlight 比較弱, 感覺唔到系玻璃, 似膠多d.... 呢樣野要參考多d product 影相既效果 (如果系 job 就有可能系古怪 client 既要求, 比我會改為自己滿意既 version 放入 portfolio)

水龍頭如果想表現 chrome 既質感, 我地會做個 reflection (highlight 位) 硬d, 如果系 matte metal 就要有起沙既質感, 依家系介乎兩者之間.

mobile 既 material 系啞膠面嗎? 同一般見開既金屬殼唔同, 有未 finish 既感覺


p.s. 我自己都有做 animation & product rendering, 做 showreel 時會有夾唔到既問題出現, 所以 product rendering 我選擇以 still 做 presentation, showreel 以 special effects & animation 為主

Thanks for the comment guys, especially h2o for the detailed suggestion. I think you really nail the problem and it really help me to refresh my view on my own work. I will try to gather more photos to see how could I improve the product render.

In the mean time, I think I probably leave it in the show reel though, this is a balanced snapshot of my current technical level in different 3D aspect, I leave the right to the viewer to like/dislike it ...
