Sorry that I can't type Chinese for the time being...
What I'm thinking is that, whatever fashion is, it's a matter of commercial activity that keeps feeding a huge bunch of staff, from the top CEO to the basic worker along the assembly line, so when certain fashion was launched for a period of time, a boom of another fashion is required to keep making money, so I think whether the product is ugly or not is not the point.
Another point is about who designed the product, for certain product, if I say it was designed by Philip Starck, then most people say its good, the appraisal was based primarily on the designer's reputation, if I tell you it was me who designed that product, then people would say"that's bad~~~", design is different from art, design is all about making money while improving people's quality of live, which are not necessarily be good in aesthetic.
And the most important issue is, for most trend followers, fashion=beauty, that's some kind of bullshxt to me. That's why I don't have much fashion product on my body, people say I'm out in fashion(though I'm a designer actually), but I don't give a dxmn to it anyway.
