This is a character model which i've created for cgtalk challenge on march.
I'm going to use this model as a character for my next shortfilm. hope u guys can give me some feedback on this character. as for details on step by step of the making of this character. please go to this page.

膊頭位好古怪, 仲有好似雕塑品, 冇質感. 但Lighting做得好好.

如果要跟足呢個model 既 detail 位畫 texture都幾困難喎!

鎖骨對上好似少左d detail ,不過 texture可以補番. 左腳背睇落有d拗柴, 可能角度問題. 塊布系唔系要做cloth,什麼質地?

你幅圖contrast 唔夠, 灰左少少.

p.s. Keith 兄, 如果俾人睇model o既話,系唔需要texture 住, 如果唔系就睇唔到 modeler o既功力架啦. 有d人會加bump map 上去,令到個model detail d. (不過我不太喜歡這樣做法). 似一個 clay 就最好,specular 都唔需要, 因為會遮左部份detail. :)

Visited his website ... he is using the maya

by the way, KFC , you use the polygon to subdivision to create the details of the muscle ? how long you model it ?

To H2O, can we paint the character's details by 3D deep- exture weapon ? beucase it only support Nurbs & polygon. any other method ? :wink:

I've been thinking of re-rigging it. i'm doing the texture now. but there is much work to do. not very happy with it now. 圖檔圖檔

as for wireframs. u guys can check it out in this page.

Malaysia is going thru a bad time now. I've been thinking of looking for a job in foreign country. but anyway, i'm working as a lecturer/R&D in a college now.
btw, is anyway here interested to give me some idea on the material of headkit of this devil? i'm sorta like out of idea for now. tried jade or something else but i might need someone to enlighten now.

To feverheat:
I haven't use Deep Paint 3D... so I don't know the detail on it. But I know somebody use it to mark location.

To KFC:
Where is the cloth? Will u keep it in ur movie?
The resolution of shadow is not enough. Your model is very detail. It can save a lot of time to draw texture. Cause I always work on nearly no detail models.
I have some ideas of the headkit. U can try a combination of bones, dull metal & leather.
I think u can use more patterns like the back to cover the shoulder, side of the legs, back of arm & hands. I think the contrast is not enough. Of course,u should try different size, shapes & gradient of patterns.

I know it is hard to do texture on a complicated model. Many projections, shaders, uv maps... ... anyway, work hard! :D

例如:render時間,用什麼software,圖的size等等.....

Sorry. 我近來才剛開始做CG Lecturer/R&D.
有點忙. 但我還會努力完成這作品.
The cloth is going to be in the movie. i'm going to do a walk cycle 1st. but that's gonna takes me a month because i'm currently working on some teaching kit and researches for college and queues for my freelance works.
but anyway, i did finished some print ads for Nokia (M'sia) b4. it's in the nokia dealers shops now.

the renderer that i've used is maya default renderer. going to try renderman out but i was out of time. as for the rendering time (1024x1024 output size). if i use 3000x3000 (300 dpi) texture. the render time would be about 40 sec. 6000x6000 (300dpi) would takes out about 1:15 minutes. Hardware Intel P4 xeon 1.8 gig X2 dual processor 1 gig rams. my home config is different, K7 1.4gig 512 rams. anyway, does the software i use matter to u guys? hmmm.... I use Maya for it. 軟件並不重要. i can use more than one 3d software.
why at highrez? hmmm.... to leave more chances to the model to be able to do extreme close up.

I'll definately work on the texture real soon. the only thing that's holding me back is because i'm working on 2 animation projects.

well........ almost forgoten to mention this.
the reason why i use value for the subD now is because i'm going to out put it to renderman so it's going to render perfectly smooth in renderman.
and the lightsamples+shadows. it's because i wanna see the result faster.
well....... for the helmet, maybe something close to bone. hmmm... chinese love bones antiques. haha....... but bones might look abit too generic. i might try ivory or mixture between ivory and jade. perhaps some dirt on it.

Do u use displacement map? U use polygon UV map or renderman projection map?

I know renderman have some problems with it.

When I use polygon UV map, of course displacement will make it crack at the boundaries.
However, projection map will have a flicking noise in the displacement area (U'll see this happen with sequence).

I finished this project with renderman 3.9.1. I don't know is it fixed in new version.

well.... i haven't come to the stage of using displacement maps. i've predicted that this problem will happens in the final renderings. that's why i rather model every details in the model itself rather than just using the disp map itself. sometimes, i still think that disp map is much longer to render than model the details in.
since i think i've most of the veins that i wants there, if there's any extra veins that i wants. i would just use bumps map instead of disp.
but back to the flickering issue, i'm not so sure about it becuase it never really happens in my renders. because i never really use too much of disp maps unless it's a irregular rock.
i use polygon UV map for all of my characters. haven't really find renderman proj map useful yet.
any place i can find renderman tutorials?
