As I know only renderman use "micro polygon" and this function will let the object more smooth in images
And it do displacement very fast.
sure it will have more and more adventage.

On the other hand, almost 90% movie which use CG will use renderman for render.

Extremely small memory consumption, exquisite image filtering, robustness forged from over ten years of world-class production, and most of all, Shading Language! I've used it (Prman) to render 30-sec commercials, 500-shot TV series, HDTV ride films... and it has never failed me :-)

wolf, do you think if using slim (of course, in this case, using Maya) only, is it good enough to create most shader without coding my own ?

Slim will get you 50% of the way (more or less, depending on what you want to do). And sad to say MtoR isn't a very well-written piece of software (very surprising, seeing that it's from Pixar); for example it's very difficult to nicely blur the shadow of the packaged light shaders (easily fixed if you write a light shader using SL); also, it doesn't support other Renderman-compliant renderers like Entropy very well. To use Renderman (not just Prman) to its fullest power, you have to learn to code shaders and massage RIBs. Basic computer programming is a *required* skill for computer artists. And writing shaders, if you know what you're doing, is fun!

although i am a softimage user, but i will put my money on brazil.

Mental ray, ya, it is good. but slow and hard to setup. take like 10 pages to setup an effect.

compare to brazil. it can apply on most of the 3D software. it render fast. only put 1 light and render can get you a 50% of GI look. and the main point is, it is very easy to setup. no bug.

unlike the maya default render. if you want to render something using maya default render, garrentee that you have to rerender couple of times until you get all of your object visible.

CG Software = Renderer ???

The initial question was which "CG software" has the best renderer. I thought we are talking the interior renderer comes with softwares like Maya, XSI,.... not renderer like PRman or brazil or MR.

Anyway, here is my 2 cents:
1. Cinema 4D
2. Soft/XSI (although it use MR)
3. Lightwave

for me.

1. XSI
2. Lightwave.
3. Whatever :)

cinema4d is by far the fastest renderer. But in terms of quality. Lightwave is much better.

Does Cinema 4D really has the best and fastest renderer?
If yes, I might try to use this softwave because it takes me so long to render my project in 3D Studio Max.

Houdini's mantra and Vmantra renderer (or now just mantra 5) also supports micro polygon. I don't remember exactly, but I think Entropy also supports micro polygon.

Yes, Mantra 5 is very good in this version. I can nake a "real" smoke very fast and good.

On the other hand, Entropy is one kind of the renderman.
